Husk Up is a travel mug, made out of rice husk and is 100% reusable.  It is plastic and melamine free making it biodegradable at the end of its life too. Husk Ups are a way to replace the 2.5bn takeaway cups that are discarded each year in Britain with reusable coffee cups that are plastic free

I can’t believe it’s not plastic! How can this be?

Huskup is made from rice husk, the outer shell of a grain of rice, so it’s a natural by-product of rice milling. The amazing rice husk is strong, high in silica and has short, tough fibres that are naturally resistant to moisture. This is important as it means they don’t need to mix it with melamine or polypropylene or other plasticisers, they use a patented blend of natural starches to help hold its shape.

The rice husk is GMO free and from the food crop, so no extra energy or resources to create – it’s a complete by-product. Common practice in Asia is to burn this waste, so the technology has developed to help combat the carbon, sulphur and pollution into the atmosphere and reduce the damage to the soil. By diverting this natural by-product they are making a positive step before the first coffee is poured.

They take great care on the sourcing of materials and production standards. The production facility is state of the art, BSCI audited and ISO14001 / ISO9001 certified.

Are huskup safe for food?

Huskup are completely food safe, tested to the highest European LFGB, USA FDA & Japanese standards. No BPA, toxin free, no melamine, no heavy metals.

Product Care 

Huskup is good for the top rack of the dishwasher, but as with most things a careful handwash may be more gentle and extend use. As there is no melamine, you can re-heat your coffee in the microwave – huskup is not for cooking or defrosting, but has passed it’s thermal shock tests too.
